Root Canal Therapy
Find immediate relief and save your tooth
Root canal therapy is the process of removing the infected, injured or dead pulp from your tooth. The pulp of your tooth is made up of blood vessels and nerves which normally keep your tooth happy and healthy. If bacteria gets into this vulnerable core, it can become infected and abscessed. This is a very serious matter and the cause of root canal pain.
The Root Canal
It’s not like it used to be! With proper care, we can perform a root canal with very little pain or discomfort. Here’s how:
- Diagnosis and Treatment Plan
The first step requires an x-ray of the tooth and the surrounding bone to assess the infection. The dentist or endodontist may prescribe antibiotics to help control infection and inflammation. The pressure from infected swelling is what makes an abscess so painful– antibiotics will alleviate that pressure.
- Prepping the tooth
When we’re ready to perform the root canal, we will carefully numb the area before freezing your gums, teeth and the surrounding area. Your comfort and peace-of-mind are important to us. An access hole is drilled into the tooth. The pulp, bacteria, decayed nerve tissue, and related debris are removed.
Sealing the tooth
Depending on the severity of the abscess, we may put some medicine inside the tooth to completely clear up any infection. If the procedure requires multiple visits, a temporary filling will be applied. At this point, you will already feel some relief.
Only when your tooth is thoroughly cleaned and healthy can it be permanently sealed.
