At some point in our lives, most of us will suffer from a cavity that needs to be filled. Dental fillings are the most common procedure in dental practice. They repair and restore the tooth and help prevent infection or painful decay that would require more serious dental work. Composite fillings match your tooth and look natural. Unlike out-dated amalgam (metal fillings), tooth-coloured fillings are capable of filling smaller cavities (much less drilling!) and last for much longer.
The bonding and white fillings process
White fillings are an obvious improvement over unsightly silver amalgam (metal fillings). Composite bonding uses the same dental techniques and technology to rebuild broken or misshapen teeth. Modern composite repairs often last more than 10 years, look natural and match the colour of your teeth. Composite fillings and bonding are safe, affordable, look great and can be completed in just one appointment.
How dental fillings and bonding is done:
- Before we begin, we will take the time to carefully numb your gums so we can gently freeze the area. People often feel anxious about this step. Freezing will numb your teeth and nerves, as well as your gums and surrounding skin to avoid feeling unnecessary pain during the procedure.
- Once you’re comfortable, your tooth is carefully cleaned and prepped. An adhesive gel is placed on the affected tooth over which a composite resin will be moulded and sculpted to restore the function and beauty of your smile.
- The composite resin material used to fill or bond your tooth is quickly cured and hardened with a special LED light. The doctor will carefully examine your finished tooth and make any required finishing touches before polishing it up for a fresh new smile.
