A Lifetime Of Smiles Starts With A Good Foundation

Empower your kids with a strong foundation in good oral hygiene habits and closely monitor their progress as their beautiful smiles develop. We recognize the unique challenges and rewards that come with family dental care, particularly when it comes to children. A healthy smile plays a vital role in a child’s life, and we are here to guide them on the right path with personalized care tailored to their specific needs.

Getting ready for your first appointment

Feel free to talk to your child about the upcoming trip to the dentist. The main purpose of your child’s first visit is to relax, have some fun, and start building a positive relationship with the dentist. Sometimes, not knowing what to expect can make people feel a little nervous. Here’s what your child can expect during their first appointment:

Talk and Listen

We will talk to you and your child, explain what we’re going to do and why and familiarize your child with some of the tools we use. We speak in kid-friendly language and explain any lingo so they can feel as comfortable and assured as possible. See! We’re not so scary after all.

Gently Examine

We will gently examine your child’s gums, tongue, teeth and overall health. Our exam will uncover any areas of concern or tricky spots that may need some extra attention at home. We will provide you with personalized guidance and make a note to pay special attention to those spots during the next appointment.

Educate

We might ask your child to show us how they brush their teeth and then give them gentle instructions on how to improve brushing their teeth at home. We would love to answer any questions you or your child have about dental health.

to schedule an initial consultation & exam.

Your consultation will include an examination of everything from your teeth, gums and soft tissues to the shape and condition of your bite. Generally, we want to see how your whole mouth looks and functions. Before we plan your treatment we want to know everything about the health and aesthetic of your smile, and, most importantly, what you want to achieve so we can help you get there.

Frequently Asked Questions

Typically, children begin teething and cutting their first teeth around 6 months of age. It is advisable for children to have their first dental visit by the age of 1 or within 6 months of their first tooth eruption. If you have any concerns about your child’s dental health, such as suspected issues, discomfort, or pain, we urge you to schedule an appointment promptly. It’s never too late for a child to have their initial dental appointment, and we are here to provide the necessary care and support.

It’s crucial for parents to recognize the significance of baby teeth, as they are not merely placeholders for adult teeth. Baby teeth play a vital role in various aspects of a child’s development. They contribute to facial appearance, the ability to smile confidently, and the frequency of smiling. Children who grow up with the freedom to develop confidence and showcase big smiles tend to maintain these positive habits throughout their lives. Conversely, dental pain, even if it’s mild and normalized by children, can have long-lasting negative effects on their eating habits. This includes how they chew, their food preferences, and the amount of food they consume. Therefore, understanding the importance of baby teeth and addressing any dental issues promptly is crucial for ensuring a healthy and confident smile in children.

The length of the appointment will depend on the needs of the child and how cooperative they’re feeling during the exam. That being said, an appointment typically lasts about one hour.

Following the initial appointment, it is advisable for your child to visit the dentist on a regular basis, just like you do. We recommend scheduling checkups and cleanings every six months, unless there are specific instructions otherwise. However, if your child experiences tooth or jaw pain, frequently rubs or nurses their jaw, or avoids consuming hard or cold foods, we encourage you to schedule an appointment sooner to address any potential issues promptly. Your child’s oral health is important to us, and we are here to provide the necessary care and support whenever needed.

Your oral health encompasses more than just your teeth. It involves a complex system consisting of teeth, tongue, gums, cheeks, glands, ligaments, joints, bones, and more. When any aspect of your oral health is compromised, it affects your entire mouth. Swollen, itchy, sore, or bleeding gums can serve as early warning signs of more significant underlying issues. It’s important to pay attention to these symptoms as they may indicate a more serious oral health problem that requires attention and care.
